A focus on dyspraxia

Dyspraxia is a form of developmental coordination disorder (DCD) which affects fine and/or gross motor skills in children and adults. Children with dyspraxia may present difficulties with self-care, writing, typing, and other physical activities. Dyspraxia can also have social and emotional difficulties for those living with the disorder.

Organisation tips:

  • Laminate and colour-code a small timetable that you can keep to hand and check as often as you need

  • Choose a bag with easily accessible external pockets

  • Identify a specific place where you can 'off-load' your things after school

  • Create a mnemonic to check you have everything when you leave the house

Writing and typing tips:

  • Try different shaped pens and pencils to find one that suits you. You might prefer one with a chunky barrel

  • Set up a system for filing and storing work on your computer so you can find it easily

  • You may find touchscreen devices easier to use
